In front of our historic town hall stands a statue of Anton van Duinkerken. Many have shaken his hand there, as is clearly visible from the outstretched hand.
The sculpture was created by artist Hein Vree (Amsterdam, 6 February 1926 – Bergen op Zoom, 30 January 1995). This sculpture was unveiled on 18 February 1977, originally placed in the street where Anton was born, the Sint-Josefstraat. For the commemoration of his 100th birth year in 2003, the sculpture was moved to the Grote Markt.
