Giants at a festival market - Bergen op Zoom

5th Lustrum Culture Square – Breda cosiness is a ‘life strategy’

Estimated reading time: approx. 1m 1s

“As long as it's enjoyable!’ — a frequently heard cry that implies the event itself is not important. In Bergen op Zoom, the meaning of ‘gezelligheid’ goes beyond a pleasant atmosphere. 'Making it gezellig' is a shared value, a way of interacting with each other, and a matter of time and organisational ability. The strength and influence of various associations contribute greatly to making an event or activity something spectacular. An important aspect of all these efforts is showcasing them, presenting them, and stepping into the spotlight.

Where the images of Anthonis and Rombout Keldermans blend harmoniously with culture

During the Krabbenfoor, a large number of associations will be present for three days in the culture square in the backyard and sculpture garden of the Markiezenhof. Such as the City Giants and the Giants of the Brabantse Wal. The Vastenavend Academy. The ‘Guild Flag and Banner Brabantse Wal’, Stichting Decorbouw Groot Arsenaal, De Vierschaar, Odiles Rapid and the Marksmen Guild St. Sebastiaan Bergen op Zoom – Borgvliet, which in addition to demonstrations, also offers visitors the opportunity to handle a bow.

But... on Saturday, go and watch and listen to a fantastic puppet show starring recognisable Bergen characters.
