Global female perspectives in small prints – Markiezenhof exhibition

Estimated reading time: approx. 1m 10s

The Markiezenhof is currently hosting the exhibition SHE – A Female Perspective. The presentation features 174 prints by female graphic artists from around the world and can be visited until 30 August 2026. The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Grafein Foundation and complements SHE – Women Who Move Mountains, the exhibition in which the Markiezenhof focuses on the role and influence of women.

Although the prints are modest in size (10 x 15 cm), their content is anything but small. In powerful, personal images, the creators depict themes such as identity, encounters, imagination, climate, and connection. Together, the works offer a multifaceted insight into the female perspective on the past, present, and future.

International mail art project

The works shown are part of the International Print Mail Art Projects by Stichting Grafein, which were organised between 2021 and 2025. This international printmaking project originated during the coronavirus pandemic, when physical encounters were limited and artists worldwide sought new ways to connect. For this presentation, Maja Anna Chris and Hans Laban from Stichting Grafein selected a series of works exclusively by female artists, creating a unique perspective on the female point of view within this international exchange.

Connection between the past and the present

“Together with Stichting Grafein, with whom we have successfully collaborated before, we are showing a contemporary and international perspective,” says Bernard Ellenbroek, interim director of the Markiezenhof. “We believe it is important to connect with the present and the future, alongside the historical context. This exhibition offers a powerful and personal vision of that.”

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
