Tanks in Burgemeester de Roocklaan

Estimated reading time: approx. 0 seconds

The 2 photos show soldiers from the Canadian South Alberta Regiment with Sherman tanks. In one photo, they are refuelling, and in the other, you can see a local resident talking to the crew.

The names of the crew members in that photo are known:

(L-R): Sergeant F.E. Freer, Corporal S.E. Jacobson, Troopers A.G. Macgillivray, W.F. Austin and P.J. Vienneau.

The photographs were taken on 29 October 1944 by Harold G. Aikman, War Photographer.
(The photographs appear on various military photo websites.)

The photos were taken on 16 July 2024 by Maarten van 't Hof.

(Due to differences and unfamiliarity with the camera, lens, technique, and the photographer's position, an exact match between then and now is not possible.)

Location: Burgemeester de Roock Avenue
