Welcome to our captivating exploration of approximately 2.5 km that will take you past the most iconic monuments and historical sites of our beautiful city. This walking route is perfect for experiencing the rich history of Bergen op Zoom.

Distance: ± 2.5 km · Duration: approx. 60 minutes · Starting point: Grote Markt · Suitable for: families with young children, visitors with disabilities, short visits

The Short Introduction Walk is the most popular city walk in Bergen op Zoom for those discovering the centre for the first time. The route is completely flat, almost entirely over paved pedestrian areas, and includes the five main monuments of the city centre in a compact loop of approximately 60 minutes.

Highlights along the route:

Grote Markt with the 17th-century town hall
Markiezenhof 16th-century city palace, now a museum
Captive's Gate (one of the oldest city gates in the Netherlands, c. 1330)
St Gertrude's Church with the Peperbus tower
Harbour Quarter with historic warehouses

The walk is digitally supported: you open the route on your phone, a digital map guides you, and a brief explanation appears at each monument. The route is suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

There are also routes available on paper at the Tourist Information Centre.
