Golden sculpture above walking path in park - Bergen op Zoom

Bospoort

Estimated reading time: approx. 1 min

In the picturesque Anton van Duinkerkenpark, renowned for its lush greenery and tranquil ambiance, lies a remarkable work of art that sparks the curiosity of many visitors: the impressive Forest Gate.

De Bospoort is one of the largest artworks in Bergen op Zoom, a piece created by Krot & Co that used to be situated in the Korte Bosstraat for years during the Krabbenfoor. After a few years of wandering, the Bospoort now has a true, own, permanent spot.

The Bospoort now towers over a cycle path in the Anton van Duinkerkenpark: four large, rust-brown metal uprights with a golden canopy on top.

That the Bospoort continues to serve as a true gate, naturally fits perfectly with the artwork. It is, after all, inspired by the city gates that Bergen op Zoom used to have. Most people are familiar with the Gevangenepoort, of course. But there was also, for example, a Bospoort, a Steenbergse Poort, and a Wouwse Poort. Krot & Co therefore created the artwork as a nod to the former Bospoort.

These days, the Forest Gate not only serves as a handsome entrance to the park. People stop to take in the intricate details, and many capture it in photographs as a piece of art and history. The Forest Gate is cherished as a symbol of the ongoing efforts to preserve tradition and nature within the bustle of modern life.
