Meet nine extraordinary women. Brave, hardworking, outspoken women who hold an important place in the history of Bergen op Zoom. They stood up for their faith and their convictions. They resisted authority and stood up for their independence. And for others.

Their stories are often overlooked, but essential and unforgettable for the history of the city. We pay tribute to Maria Elisabeth, Gertrudis, Rosa. To Lucie, Maria and Trees. And to Adriana, Mientje and Corrie. But not only to them.

With this exhibition, we also honour all other women – often nameless – who, with their strength, insight and perseverance, have contributed to our city and the Netherlands of today. Come and discover their stories through the ages.
