In the quiet and green Bolwerk park, you'll find a fascinating sculpture. This impressive work of art is the result of the creative and visionary mind of Dutch artist Arno van de Mark. The sculpture, characterised by its vibrant and dynamic appearance, has an interesting origin story dating back to 1984-1985.

During these years, Van der Mark worked intensively on a series of clay models. These models were much more than simple sketches; they formed the basis of his final artwork. Within his studio, he experimented with different shapes and ideas. Each clay model was a potential direction, an expression of a different aspect of movement and form.

After the choice of a specific clay model had been made, the scaling-up process began. This was an important step, with Van der Mark closely overseeing the preservation of the original intended expression and details of the clay model.

The final result is a sculpture that Van der Mark himself describes as a “statement of activity,” a dynamic representation of energy and movement translated into static bronze. The moment captured in the sculpture radiates power and vitality, as if it could spring to life at any moment. The choice to cast it in bronze, a material that is both robust and timeless, underscores the lasting impact the artist intended.

The choice of location for this sculpture, which was entirely determined by Van der Mark himself, is also remarkable. The Bolwerk park offers a harmonious backdrop for the artwork, with the natural surroundings complementing the sculpture. The position was carefully selected to emphasise the interplay between art and nature. The green landscape forms a silent frame that further accentuates the movement and power of the artwork.
