Illustration workshop for children with MARK JANSSEN

Do you love drawing? Then you shouldn't let this opportunity pass you by! Mark Janssen, illustrator of numerous beloved picture and children's books, will be our guest and help you on your way to creating your own artwork.

Mark Janssen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht and is based as a full-time illustrator in Valkenburg a/d Geul, where he has a home studio. He has contributed to more than 500 children's and picture books and is now best known for his own picture books such as Island, Dreameren Home. Also the St Nicholas songs he has illustrated and, together with Boudewijn de Groot and Jaco van der Steen, has since created three picture books full of new children's songs.

‘Island’ was awarded the Children's Bookstore Prize and the Premio Andersen Award 2020. And he won the Woutertje Pieterse Prize twice, in 2024 together with Tjibbe Veldkamp for ‚The Boy Who Loved the World‘ and in 2026 together with Bart Moeyaert for ‚Atman‘.

Recently published Wonder a picture book full of art, colour and imagination.

Anticipation for Children's Book Week – SIMON VAN DER GEEST as guest

Meet one of the Netherlands' finest children's book authors, known for, among others, Hart van Staal, Sleutelrobot and Het werkstuk!

Simon van der Geest (1978) trained as a theatre teacher at the drama school in Arnhem, followed by the playwrighting course in Utrecht. Alongside plays, he writes stories, poems, and songs, preferably for children.

For both his Odyssey adaptation Dissus as for his children's book Spinder he received a Gouden Griffel. The assignment was awarded a Silver Pencil in 2020. The suspense novel was published in 2023 Heart of steel, about children who discover that their parents are actually robots. Part 2, The Key Robot,followed in 2025. In that same year, Simon van der Geest was asked to Children's Book Week poemto write, and the collection came Peeing on an electric fence out, with new and older poems about small and larger adventures, and with illustrations by Karst-Janneke Rogaar. Van der Geest also wrote three books for beginning readers in the Tiger Reads series.

The Great Children's Book QuistQuiz

During Children's Book Week we had a super fun evening with our first edition of the QuistQuiz and we were already shouting then: we are going to do this for Children's Book Week too!

So here it is, The Great Children's Book QuistQuiz.

Do you know everything about children's books or do you read everything you can get your hands on? Let your children's book knowledge and puzzle-solving common sense shine and join forces with your team for an evening full of fun, brain training, quiz ambition and great prizes.

Build your team wisely, because there is something for everyone. There is space for maximum of 10 teams of 4 people from 8 to 88 years old, but if you happen to be 100 and want to join in, you are of course welcome!

An evening about time with Philip Dröge

Historian Philip Dröge takes you on the fascinating history of time. Travelling around the world, he searches for this most elusive element of our reality. Through the centuries, on both sides of the meridian, he follows the calendar and the traces of clockmakers, monks and watchmakers, from a remote Swedish island to the Greek coast, from temples in India to Aboriginal traditions in Australia. Along the way, he investigates how people through the ages have tried to get a grip on something that cannot actually be caught: time.

Dröge demonstrates how our way of measuring and experiencing time is anything but self-evident.
