First edition of Art on the Square in Bergen op Zoom

On Saturday 22 August 2026, the SquareOne Foundation is organising the art festival for the first time Art on the Square. From 11:00 to 17:00, the Zuivelplein in Bergen op Zoom transforms into a vibrant meeting place for lovers of art, creativity and music.

Around the gallery of the SquareOne Foundation, various artists are showcasing their work. Visitors can not only discover a diverse range of art forms, but also see at close quarters how the artists work and which techniques they use. A wonderful opportunity to gain inspiration, ask questions and engage in a personal conversation with the creators.

The musical accompaniment is provided by the band Folk'n'Jazz. With their atmospheric music, they contribute to the lively and relaxed atmosphere on the square.

With Art in the Square, the SquareOne Foundation aims to make art accessible to a wide audience and to connect artists and visitors. Feel free to pop in, let yourself be surprised by the creativity and enjoy an inspiring day right in the historic centre of Bergen op Zoom.

Programme

During Art on the Square, visitors can, among other things, get acquainted with:

• Glass art — Demonstrations of ghostprinting fusing: material is trapped between glass shards and processed into unique jewellery.
• Painting — Artists show how works are created on canvas and other surfaces, using acrylic and oil paint.
• Cyanotype — Learn how to use ultraviolet light to create deep blue images on cards; an ancient technique with surprising results.
• Collage & Poetry — An artist creates collages and surprises visitors with her spontaneous, powerful poetry one-liners that wouldn't look out of place on any wall.
• Pottery — On the potter's wheel, lumps of clay are transformed into beautiful ceramic shapes; challenging and fun to watch.
• Japanese bookbinding — Discover how a handmade booklet is bound with dexterity into a special and personal gift.

In addition, the SquareOne Gallery is naturally also open. Here you can admire wood art, collages, paintings, glass art, ceramics and sculptures, among other things. Each and every one is a unique work into which the creators have poured their soul and craftsmanship.

Art in the Square promises to be an inspiring day for young and old.
