Just outside the historic centre of Bergen op Zoom lies a special place where history and modern architecture meet: the Moses Bridge at Fort de Roovere. This unique bridge literally seems to split the water, as if you – just like Moses from the biblical story – are walking through the water.
The bridge is hidden in the moat of the fort and is designed so that it under the water level A light. From a distance you see almost nothing; only when you get closer do you discover a narrow wooden passage running right through the water. As you walk over the bridge, the water is at eye level on both sides. That creates a special experience: you feel as if you are walking right through the fortress moat.
The Moses Bridge was built in Built 2011 as part of the restoration of Fort de Roovere, one of the old defensive works of the West Brabant Water Line. The bridge is made from durable wood and specially designed to withstand water and weathering.
